The Blades slipped to a 2-0 home defeat in the U23 Steel City Derby at Bramall Lane.

A crowd of 862 watched on as goals from Jack Stobbs and Preslav Borukov saw the Owls to victory.

The game's first goal came on 15 minutes as Wednesday won the ball in United's half and Stobbs was sent through to fire past Warhurst.

United almost drew level on the half-hour mark as Carruthers put in an inviting ball to the back post which was met by Smith, but his header went just wide.

Shortly after the interval, United had their best opportunity of the night as Mallon's strike across goal was parried by Wallis into the path of Hallam who blasted over from close range.

A quiet period in the game had a dose of energy put into it after the hour as Smith picked up the ball in the box, turned his defender and forced a good save out of Wallis as United pressed for an equaliser.

However just moments later the Owls doubled their advantage as Stobbs curled a cross into to the back post and Borukov met it and headed home past Warhurst.

Sheffield United: Warhurst, Hallam (Brooks 69), Norrington-Davies, Doherty, Graham, Semple (Mallon 45), Gilmour, Slater, Evans, Carruthers, Smith (Wright 76).

Keane Lewis-Potter scored twice as the Under-23s returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Sheffield United at Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Jon Beale's side opened the scoring on 13 minutes when Lewis-Potter and Liam Edwards combined on the left and although the Welshman's cross was cleared Chadwick picked the ball up on the edge of the box and drilled a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

The Tigers doubled their lead just past the hour mark when Lewis-Potter was found with time and space outside the box and struck a magnificent shot into the top corner of the net.

And the same player made it 3-0 twelve minutes from time when Ben Hinchliffe's cross from the right evaded everyone in the box but the ball was returned from the left and Lewis-Potter turned and fired a right foot shot past Jake Eastwood.
