Adkins Hails Youngsters' Attitude And Application
Nigel Adkins has praised the youngsters in his squad for their hard work so far this pre-season.
Under-23 regulars Robbie McKenzie, Adam Curry, Tom Powell, Brandon Fleming, Lewis Ritson and Tyler Hamilton, along with first-year professionals Elliot Holmes, Billy Chadwick and Max Sheaf, are all currently out with the team in Portugal having been involved in first-team training since the start of pre-season.
All nine players featured in Tuesday night's opening pre-season win over C.S. Maritimo and, whilst highlighting the impact the youngsters have had, the Tigers' Head Coach was quick to stress the importance for all of them to continue with their progression.
"The young lads have been great," he said.
"It's been a great experience for them to be amongst the group and to have the exposure of being in and around the first-team set-up. The challenge they have now is to try and stay with the first team over the course of the season.
"The attitude and application on show from all of them has been first class though - and there are some right little characters in the group as well which is great to see.
"That's exactly what we want at the football club, players that are young, hungry and ambitious to do well.
"It's important that we continue to keep that culture moving forward to ensure it's not just a short-term thing - it has to be a long-term plan.
"We want to have that pathway from the Academy to the first-team for our youngsters. It's going to be important because I want to be at Hull City for a long time."
