Beale: Draw A Fair Result
Jon Beale felt a draw was a fair result in the Under-23s’ 1-1 stalemate with Charlton Athletic on Monday night.
The visitors took an early lead through Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu, but Greg Luer pounced to fire home from close-range shortly after the half hour mark to earn a share of the spoils, ending the Tigers’ three-game losing streak in the process.
Whilst pleased to see his side pick up their first point of the campaign, Beale admitted his players still have room for improvement.
“It was probably a fair result when you reflect on how the game went,” he said.
“Charlton had just as many chances as we did throughout the course of the game, but neither side could get that all important second goal.
“It would have been disappointing if we had lost the game, and I’m sure they would say exactly the same.
“It was a bit too frantic for my liking - it ended up more like a basketball game! We attacked, they attacked, we attacked, they attacked and so on.
“We didn’t control the game as much as I would’ve liked us to. We needed to be a little bit more patient in our play and move the ball around a little bit more than we did.
“However, the major positive was that we stopped the losing run and picked up our first point of the season.
“It’s a point on the board and, going forward, we have look build on the positives from the performance.
“But, on the other hand, we also have to look at the things that weren’t so great and work on them in training ahead of heading to Cardiff next week.”
