Beale: Clark And Bowen Can Prove Inspiration
Academy Manager Jon Beale is hoping his youngsters will be inspired by Max Clark and Jarrod Bowen’s breakthrough into the Tigers’ first-team.
The pair have excelled in Leonid Slutsky’s side during the opening month of the Sky Bet Championship season, starting in each of the Tigers’ first five league fixtures of the new campaign.
Whilst Bowen has grabbed the headlines with his tally of four goals, Hull-born Clark has also made an impressive transition to life in the first-team after finally getting the chance to shine on the senior stage - with Beale delighted to see the duo getting their rewards for years of hard work, dedication and commitment.
“First and foremost, I’m absolutely delighted for the pair of them,” he said.
“Max has been desperate to get his chance for a long, long time now and it was great to see him get the opportunity on the opening day at Villa. It’s one thing to make your league debut, but it’s totally another to make it for your hometown club.
“It’s the Club he supported growing up as a kid and that made it extra special for him – and everyone involved in our youth set-up is absolutely delighted for Max. He’s obviously gained some exposure to league football over the last 18 months or so with Cambridge United and that has stood him in good stead.
“It’s a great achievement for the Academy to see another local lad get the opportunity to play for the first team so we’re all really pleased at that. What’s even more pleasing is that he’s remained in the side on merit since because of the standard of his performances.
“Everyone is equally as delighted with Jarrod’s progress as well. He made a great start to the season with his first goal for the Club in the draw at Villa in our opening game. I think it was clear for everyone to see how much it meant to him by the manner of his celebration afterwards.
“Again, the pleasing thing is that he kicked on after that achievement, bagging a further three goals to take his tally to four in five games for the season. We’ve always had great belief in Jarrod and his ability since he first arrived here at the age of 17 and to see him performing - and scoring goals for the first team - is simply fantastic.
“Max and Jarrod’s routes to the senior set-up have been slightly different, but what they have achieved is down to their hard work, effort and commitment.
“They’re both really good lads who give you absolutely everything every single day, and are a great advert for what can be achieved if your attitude is right and you commit yourself to what you want to achieve.”
Reflecting on the impact Bowen and Clark’s progression has had at the Academy’s Bishop Burton base, Beale added: “There’s a real sense of pride at seeing our young players stepping up and making an impact at first team level – it really is great to see. The place is on a real high at the minute and long may it continue.
“The most inspirational thing should be for the lads who are in our Under-23s and training at Cottingham because they can see a real pathway into the first team now, as long as they are doing the right things.
“It’s another sign that there are opportunities for young players here. The manager has proven he’s willing to give the lads chances if they perform to the level required, which is massive for what we do at the Academy too. That’s something that should drive everyone at the Academy to push on even further.”
